The pay rate for this position is $23.00 per hour (FLSA Non-Exempt), part-time with a duration of 30 hours per week for 8 weeks.
Position Summary: The Program Instructor is a part-time teaching position in the Community Building & Engagement (CBE) Division of CHN Housing Partners. The Program Instructor will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the CHN’s Youth Challenge Program.
The Youth Challenge is part of CHN’s Summer Youth Work Experience and aligns to the Summer Youth Employment Program, administered, and wages paid by, Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.). As a 6-week, paid employment program for youth aged 14-18 in Cleveland, Ohio, the Youth Challenge is designed to provide entry level career exposure and skill development in project design, job readiness, entrepreneurship, and leadership, with supplemental educational experiences in service learning and financial literacy. Youth employees are trained to become change agents in their communities and their lives through working on real projects; gaining hands-on experience and developing skills that will help them succeed in their future careers.
Working closely with CHN’s Youth Workforce Development Program Manager, the Program Instructor’s responsibilities will include preparing and facilitating activities and trainings, coordinating career exposure opportunities, and service-learning engagements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day management of CHN’s Youth Challenge Program.
- Provide career exposure and skill development in project design, job readiness, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
- Train youth employees to become change agents through hands-on project work.
- Prepare and facilitate activities and trainings.
- Coordinate career exposure opportunities and service-learning engagements.
- Collaborate with CHN’s Youth Workforce Development Program Manager.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Required:
Education:
- Acquired or actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher degree in education, social work, community development, etc.
Experience:
- Professional experience related to youth development capacity, including education, social work, career development, and/or a related field. Must have hands-on training experience.
Skills:
- Interest in youth empowerment and community engagement
- Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Problem-solving and analytical skills to adjust curriculum to suit youth employees, partners, and site needs
- Effective written communication skills to prepare lesson plans and correspond with youth employee parents and partners
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Dependable, responsible and on-time
- Enthusiasm, patience, and tact
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance
Other:
- Must have valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and access to a car.
