Job Summary: Performs routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects in various environments; performs inspections, cleanups, storage, and disposal of paint products; and operates various tools and equipment. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the department. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager.


Primary Tasks:

  1. Perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, such as painting various materials, sandblasting, powder blasting, and preparation for solvent and or water-based coatings.
  2. Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces including, aluminum, ferrous metal, shop coated metal, uncoated metal, finished hardware, accessories, test plates, and other surfaces as specified; protect and prime surfaces as appropriate; apply finish coatings to Mil-Spec requirements.
  3. Apply protective coatings to items such as ground support equipment, trailers, storage containers, aviation support equipment, etc.
  4. Apply pre-treatments such as metal wash primer, chromate conversion, zinc phosphate, etc.
  5. Repair and touch up damaged or non-conforming coatings in accordance with Mil-Spec and company requirements.
  6. Remove non-conforming protective coatings from equipment by sandblasting; perform field blast cleaning as specified; remove dust by brushing, vacuuming, or air blasting; remove heavy deposits of grease or oil from surfaces.
  7. Correct work as directed; repair nicks, scratches, or any other non-conformances in the finish.
  8. Clean and maintain work areas, equipment, tools, supplies, and materials. Maintain 5S standards and established lean processes.
  9. Maintain safety standards in the performance of duties.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education, Skills, and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one-year related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for a period of 12 hours per day, four days a week or more; walk; use hands to finger, handles, or feels; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee will regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
