The Environmental Counsel role serves as legal counsel to Chubb North America's environmental insurance lines, advising stakeholders at all levels in their strategic management of legal, regulatory, contractual, and reputational risks present in the underwriting, negotiation, structuring, marketing, and servicing of environmental insurance. In addition to providing counsel on environmental issues, this role will also provide counsel on other general commercial insurance issues. This role will sit in our Philadelphia, PA, Whitehouse Station, NJ, Jersey City, NJ or New York City office on a 3 2 hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities include:

  • Counsel and communicate effectively with internal business clients regarding a wide range of legal matters.
  • Research and maintain familiarity with relevant insurance and environmental legal and regulatory issues.
  • Draft and supervise the drafting of environmental insurance policy language.
  • Effectively collaborate with all disciplines within the North America Legal & Compliance organization, including compliance, regulatory affairs, government affairs, and product services, in order to provide informed and robust legal advice with respect to environmental insurance product offerings.
  • Work with state insurance regulators and federal and state environmental regulators to ensure Chubb's environmental insurance products satisfy environmental financial responsibility regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Chubb Claims organization to evaluate claim/loss trends and develop solutions for their impact on environmental product offerings.
  • Providing legal review of environmental insurance marketing material.
  • As needed, provide counsel on other commercial insurance policies, legal and regulatory

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5 to 7 years of post-law school legal experience, preferably in a law firm or corporation.
  • The ideal candidate will have significant property or casualty insurance experience, including policy language drafting and business counseling experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills; analytical acumen; an ability to offer advice on complex issues to business professionals at every level of the organization; enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented, dynamic environment; ability to work independently with minimal supervision of day-to-day tasks while also appropriately identifying matters requiring escalation to management; and a strong service-oriented disposition including the ability to multi-task.
  • Experience/expertise in environmental law and regulation is a strong plus.

Education:

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, licensed to practice law in at least one state.

The pay range for the role is $102,000 to $168,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. The disclosed pay range estimate may be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
