Marine Underwriter
Chubb is seeking an Inland Marine Underwriter in San Francisco, CA or one of our West Coast offices with underwriting responsibilities for the Western Region. The ideal candidate will have marine insurance underwriting experience and solid sales and marketing skills. Lines of business include Inland Marine / Builders Risk and Ocean Cargo, but with a focus on renewable Marine lines, including Homebuilders, Contractors Equipment, Equipment Dealers, Commercial Rental Operations, Equipment Floaters, Fine Arts, Agricultural Equipment, Miscellaneous Articles Floaters, Musical Instruments and Dealers, Electronic Data Processing Equipment and Communication Equipment.
Underwriting Duties Include:
- Identifying opportunity for growth within new and existing production sources to meet the new business goals.
- Ability to travel regularly for external agency and insured visits, approximately 25-30% of the time.
- Risk Selection, analysis (including documentation), reviewing referrals and service of accounts based on Commercial Insurance Guidelines
- Implementing and managing effective pricing and underwriting strategies for profitable growth of the book.
- Building, maintaining, and managing successful producer relationships to achieve retention and new business development.
- Meeting with new and renewal customers, individually or as part of a Chubb team, to make sales presentations and negotiate coverage, price, financial terms, and service delivery.
- Working in a team environment with Underwriters, Underwriter Associates, Loss Control Representatives, Claim Representatives, and Operations staff.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to successfully negotiate on all levels and develop producer relationships.
- Strong track record of new business production, service orientation, and teamwork.
- Demonstrated product knowledge in marine insurance.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and focus on quality.
- Strong track record of service orientation and teamwork.
- Knowledge of marketing principles, underwriting, and pricing strategies.
- Demonstrated technical expertise and product knowledge in Commercial Insurance.
- Aptitude to attract and retain profitable business.
- Ability to work independently and cohesively in a team environment in conjunction with service staff, loss control, field marketing claims, and loss control employees.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Basic leadership skills

The pay range for the role is $71,500 to $115,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
