Job Overview
The incumbent will support the efforts of engineers, designers, drafters, technicians, and technologies in technical work within an assigned discipline. Perform moderately complex assignments that require initiative and independent judgement in the selection and use of established principles and procedures. Position will support the use of common work processes and procedures.
This position is located at the NASA/White Sands Test Facility site.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Electrical and Fire Protection project work, i.e. meet deliverables and objectives, generate punch lists, develop scopes of work collaborate with customer and contractors, identify root cause, dispute claims resolution.
- Analyzes systems, major units, devices, or equipment; conducts test or experiments; analyzes results and recommends modifications and design drawings to evaluate system performance.
- Review guidelines, specifications, and assist in developing designs. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; thereafter recommend systems improvements.
- Assist engineers in reviewing and recommending action on client requests for engineering change orders and obtains the required approvals. Assist in preparing economic and operating feasibility studies and in performing similar activities aimed at evaluating alternative systems, equipment, materials, or engineering methods.
- Make calculations and performs analyses in support of design engineering, such as earthwork, material quantity take-off and statistical data.
- Support studies to formulate, determine and evaluate design criteria for structures, systems, and equipment items.
- Perform computer-related activities, such as preparing input data and using computer programs for computerized solution of technical problems.
- Uses considerable creativity and judgement to devise approaches to accomplish work, resolve design and operational problems, and make decisions in situations where standard engineering methods procedures and techniques may not be applicable.
- Reviews estimates for compliances with overall project objectives.
- Determines if available equipment resources are adequate and if not, researches and includes in estimate the item, source of equipment, rental timeframe, and prices.
- Coordinate projects with other discipline. Applies knowledge of other disciplines to determine coordination effort required to address various design considerations.
- Meet with customers and co-workers to gather information and specifications.
- Consults shop personnel to seek advice on projects or tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Seven (7) years of experience or an equivalent combination of skills, education and experience in the fields of electrical and fire protection.
- Knowledge of drafting, design, estimating, and engineering systems at an intermediate level.
- Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- U.S. Citizenship.
