Bilingual Food Services Assistant

Work Status

• Part-time (20 hrs/week)
• Accountable to Pantry Manager
• Able to work mid-day and one evening a week, on campus only

Overview:

We are looking for a Bilingual Food Services Assistant to provide interpretation to Latinx guests to ensure that they have a complete understanding of all steps needed to acquire food. This person will also be responsible for translating materials from English to Spanish. This position requires some knowledge of TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) regulations and food distribution guidelines. The Bilingual Food Services Assistant will also provide assistance to the pantry and warehouse managers with administrative duties and physical labor as required within Food Services.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in explaining food pantry guidelines to Spanish speaking guests when acquiring food.
• Assist the warehouse managers with administrative duties and physical labor as requested.
• Learn and follow TEFAP regulations and guidelines.
• Distribute Elkhart Resident Identification cards.
• Translate documents as requested.

• Competency with computer software such as databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
• Excellent data entry skills.
• Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
• Understands the complexities of poverty and the people we serve.

• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up 50 lbs.
• Ability and willingness to learn sanitary food storage and handling guidelines and practices.
• Written and verbal fluency in the required languages.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Pallet jack operation

Required Experience:

• A minimum of 1 year of customer service or relevant experience.

Required Education:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Employment Requirements:

Must provide a negative pre-employment drug screening and successful background clearance.
