Job Description

We are seeking a new addition to our amazing internal team to help support the financial health and strategies of CHUZE as we continue to grow. Though COVID slowed growth, our team and Equity Partners are fully back to building locations and are looking at new states in addition to building out our current states of CA, CO, AZ, and NM. This role will be an invaluable part of our foundation for success, and we are excited to welcome you into our CHUZE family.

There are 4 main traits we expect in this role:

  • Leadership
  • Technical Skillset
  • Efficiency
  • Cultural Fit

Though we are scaling, as a mid-size company with 30 locations, there is so much opportunity to create and implement change and have a true impact on how processes evolve as we grow. It’s an exciting time to join while you can make a difference at a manageable level.

THE ROLE - What you will be doing to take us to the next level

Your role is to lead the organization’s Accounting Operations department in partnership with the CFO. This expectation is to not just “direct traffic”, but to grow the skills and leadership of your team. At this time, we have some incredible talent in place, they are just waiting for someone to assist in expanding their knowledge base and bring cohesiveness to the department. They are hungry to learn more, and they need you.

You do more than just maintain the integrity, compliance of our financial reporting, regulatory responsibilities, tax, and treasury activities -the breadth and depth of your role is broad. It intersects with all departments, so it is cross-functional in nature and in your role, you are expected to be a leader to ALL employees. This involves working closely with the Business Planning and Analysis arm of the Finance team to deliver accurate and actionable management reporting and understand the root causes of variances from our financial targets (favorable and unfavorable).

You will own the corporate transactional operations ecosystem

  • As the Controller, you have total ownership of, and responsibility for, all transactional processes which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, T&E, general accounting, treasury, taxes, and inventory accounting, among others. Your technical knowledge and proven experience in these areas is the price of entry.

You are obsessed with driving efficiency

  • You are responsible for driving a transformational change agenda that optimizes our processes, leverages technology and automation to maximize efficiency and deliver economies of scale.
  • You are expected to always be looking for ways to drive productivity and cost efficiencies through process optimization and automation.
  • Our company is growing in scale and complexity. We need you to deliver sustained economies of scale and optimize the cost efficiency of the department without sacrificing the need to increase our functionality and nimbleness.

You will keep a keen eye on controlling cost

  • You are responsible for developing policies and procedures, systems, processes, and metrics to make sure that costs are under control.
  • You are a master at creating and maintaining strong internal controls and compliance that work well with the demands and outcomes we expect from Operations and all other support functions. This means that the design, development and testing of the effectiveness of each control can be incorporated into the needs of an entrepreneurial, but perfectly governed organization, in growth-mode.
  • You own the execution, timeliness, and integrity of our monthly closing process. We are counting on you to always look for ways to streamline the process and provide the results sooner than we are currently able to. We count on your ability to adapt to ensure our bookkeeping and financial reporting evolves with the needs of a growing, entrepreneurial organization.

You will keep us compliant, audit ready, and squeaky clean

  • We are counting on your technical skills and leadership to stay on top of GAAP, treasury and tax developments and make the necessary changes to keep us compliant and audit ready. Your relationship with our external auditors is imperative. We expect you to manage the annual audit process collaboratively and on-time.

YOU – This is who we are looking for:

Chuze is a people focused organization and therefore respect, cooperation, and conflict resolution are expected at all times. We also tend to run informal and like to have fun so bring your sense of humor and your unique personality to the table.

You are an emotionally intelligent relationship builder, cross-functional partner, and influencer

  • Implementing process and technology innovation requires cross-functional collaboration and cooperation. You can only achieve that by building strong relationships with leadership across the organization and maintaining cross-functional partnerships that enable implementation of your innovation and controls agenda.

You are a change management guru

  • Your job requires you to innovate and drive change to achieve efficiencies across process, effort, and cost. You are an expert at assessing the need, readiness, risks, and plan to execute and implement successfully. To state the obvious, how the change is experienced and accepted throughout the organization, especially in our clubs, where the magic happens, is your full and total responsibility. We are counting on you to transform accounting operations to scale and lead the change management process.
  • You are confident in challenging the business with respect and humility.

Your ability to build a strong team is in your DNA

  • Your team expects you to define an inspiring vision, set clear expectations, manage, and coach them to professionally develop and succeed. Your success depends on the success of the team. The success of your team depends on the development of their technical skills and leadership competencies. They are counting on you to build a career with us, not just a job.

You are constantly seeking out problems and taking charge of solving them

  • You find the “what”, the root causes that tells us the “why”, and the corrective action plans to solve the problem and/or define the opportunity.
  • You are proactive and all about solutions – You may not have all the answers, but you always have a possible solution in mind when presenting a problem.
  • You work with a sense of urgency, while engaging and listening to experts.

A Relentless, Disciplined Collaborator

  • You never lose your sense of possibility and relentlessly pursue results.
  • You are a prioritization maniac. You do not get easily ruffled. We are moving at break-neck speed. You take it all in stride and keep calm under pressure.
  • You are organized. You are good at managing the details and seeing them through.
  • You are flexible. You can deal with multiple tasks and know how to prioritize them to get it all done.
  • You are a team player. We are in the hospitality business, and you are part of the team, willing to jump in and help any way you can. No job is too small. Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to have fun and bring a sense of humor to work
