Health Services Accounting Policy Principal/Director (Accounting Principal) - Express Scripts

ACCOUNTING POLICY PRINCIPAL

**This is an individual contributor role**

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Principal is primarily responsible for providing accounting policy guidance and leadership related to the Company’s implementation of GAAP accounting policy, project implementations and additional clinical programs.  This includes working with cross-functional business partners to evaluate the impacts of new products and offerings from both a technical and operational accounting impact.    The role is highly technical and needs to have a strong level of ability to communicate and influence leadership in these areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Overall project and accounting lead for GAAP accounting policies for Health Services.
• Coordinate and lead frequent meetings across the Health Services business.
• Primary liaison between the business and Accounting Policy.
• Assist in documenting design and decision points around accounting policy methodology and processes deployed throughout the organization to ensure consistency and compliance with accounting guidance.
• Raise and resolve issues encountered by the businesses, work with independent auditors, ensure compliance with accounting guidance while maintaining operability.
• Maintain project status and detailed listing of issues, resolution, timelines, etc.
• Ensure appropriate internal control over financial reporting and Sarbanes Oxley controls are implemented upon adoption.
• Ensure that the company's revenues from customer contracts are properly accounted for in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Requires systems management as meeting these requirements will likely require system changes.
• Collaborate and provide direction to the business to ensure tracking of contractual changes that may impact Accounting and Finance.  
• Prepare technical accounting memos per US GAAP.
• Make recommendations as needed with the Business.
• Ability to assist with additional projects and tasks related to Finance as they arise; collaborate and communicate with Accounting, Bids and Proposals Team, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Legal, Customer Operations, Customer Support, IT and External Auditors.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent work experience.  CPA required.
• 8-12 years of which should be in public accounting or technical accounting roles (including SEC reporting).
• Experience with project management, particularly leading large scale implementation.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles.
• Demonstrated high level of ethics and integrity.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage a heavy workload.
• Self-starter and team player.
• Experience working with cross functional departments to research and resolve issues.
• Good problem solving and analytical skills.
• Understanding of business operations and processes.
• Focus on quality and service.
• Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate departmental and project deadlines.
• Demonstrated proficiency in accounting processes, procedures, and controls.
