What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thought Leadership, Lead Writer - Corporate Communications position at Cigna?
Cigna is seeking an accomplished and highly motivated professional writer for the position of Thought Leadership Writer, Senior Advisor. This individual will accelerate the evolution of Cigna's thought leadership platforms through developing original written content that positions Cigna as an industry thought leader.
This candidate must demonstrate an expertise in sophisticated writing. This position will shape and execute writing comprehensive positional white papers, cases studies, executive remarks, social content, etc. The successful candidate will also lead creative storytelling and original content development (both long and short form). This bold thinker must also be able to absorb new concepts quickly and break down complicated ideas in a simple way. He/she must possess strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, and be a disciplined, creative self-starter. Health care experience strongly preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute groundbreaking thought leadership written content that demonstrates Cigna's unique perspective on creating a more sustainable health care system that delivers on the company’s promise to make heath care more affordable, predictable and simple.
- Shape and write positional in-depth white papers, executive remarks, case studies and other materials.
- Develop an editorial calendar, and ensure content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style and tone.
- Collaborate with business leaders and matrix partners at all levels of the organization as a brand journalist to uncover stories and insights that lead to meaningful thought leadership messaging and concepts
- Simplify complex information from multiple sources into clear and impactful stories, frameworks and narratives
- Build concepts from scratch to engage an audience in thought leadership programming, bringing stories to life
- Maintain alignment of messages across all media including articles, white papers, digital assets, printed materials, video scripts, event programming, etc.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Offer:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communications, journalism, creative writing, marketing or similar field
- At least 10 years of experience as a senior level writer with preference for individuals with expertise in thought leadership either in-house or at an agency
- Demonstrated experience with contemporary storytelling approaches including graphics, videos, digital channels, social, podcasts, etc.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts into crisp, user-friendly communications
- Strong editorial judgement
- Unwavering attention to detail with an acute awareness that everything counts – all research must be carefully cited and maintained
- Adept at planning and prioritizing work to meet tight deadlines
- A self-starter who is eager to learn new concepts and dive into new territories
- Evidence of keen insight into the integration between business and communications’ objectives
- Experience working in a global, highly-matrixed, deadline-sensitive environment
- Candidates will be asked to supply examples of authored white papers, case studies or other similar level content
