Lead BI Developer

Position Summary:

The BI Lead Developer is responsible for building the interfaces and supporting multiple business intelligence tools like Tableau, and Microstrategy and for the delivery of end-user functionality from the Data Warehouse and other data sources based on functional and technical specification. Responsible for creating OLAP and presentation environments using leading enterprise reporting solutions (MicroStrategy, Tableau , etc.) The BI Lead Developer has overall responsibility for the architecture of MicroStrategy dashboards and reports both for Mobile and Web that satisfy and meet business requirements/needs.

Principal Duties

Oversee, develop and implement critical architectural patterns, designs and data structures for data warehousing, complex reporting and analytics solutions that deliver information efficiently, with the end goal to solve business challenges and achieve business objectives. Identify areas of improvement to optimize data flows.

• Act as the technical consultant for other team members working in ETL tool (Talend),and DW (Snowflake) data modeling and data transformation for business intelligence tools like Microstrategy and Tableau. Collaborate with business engagement teams to define dashboards and reporting solutions to meet diverse, complex business needs. Architect future dashboards including the design of the data warehouse tables, Source to Target ETL logic and dashboard development.
• Architect new interfaces and/or modify existing interfaces to support growing business needs. Lead new interface integration related projects.
• Manage technical execution of development tasks to ensure that solutions add real business value, system architecture is aligned with business goals, and the design is consistent with the enterprise architecture strategy.
• Leverage and/or build different data architectures and data blending technologies to provide data to Tableau and Microstrategy. Act as the Subject Matter Expert in Architecture for creating Schema objects with MicroStrategy Desktop such as Tables, Facts, Attributes, and Hierarchies.
• Architect and develop data models, ETL packages, OLAP cubes, Power BI/Erwin Models. Provide feedback/reports on system usage and potential bottlenecks. Develop creative solutions for complex enhancements.
• Responsible for creating Schema objects, Reports, Templates and metadata data using MicroStrategy. Design full life cycle implementation of MicroStrategy, Tableau applications which include business requirements definition, Data Analysis, Data Warehouse Architecture, Logical Data modeling, Physical Data modeling and Validations.
• Complete the analysis and evaluation of data structures and develop ETL using the top data integration tools (Talend).
• Oversee the configuration of memory handling of Microstrategy Objects according to performance requirements.
• Utilize Visual Insight tool to create customized and interactive dashboards to explore the business data.
• Architect the interface design plans and technical design documents for development of the application platform according to business requirement. Document all source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, and database design. Develop and Document MSTR, Tableau Architecture Design.
• Follow Object development, Object maintenance and Acceptance testing for all development efforts.
• Create views for using data stored in Data Systems as needed. Design reports as per business requirement in Microstrategy from various source systems like Oracle , Microsoft SQL Server and Snowflake.
• Oversee the management of MicroStrategy Administration Product Suites.
• Collaborate with Architects and Security teams to design the security models and identify the requirements including PII in the Microstrategy and Tableau datasets.
• Work closely with Analytics team to understand the requirements in order to build the interfaces to enable datasets for self-service analytics for multiple analytical tools like Tableau, MicroStrategy and future toolsets.
• Recommend changes to policies and established procedures that affect immediate BI teams. Establish and maintain design and development best practices.
• Provide proactive production support for MicroStrategy and other BI/Analytics applications as needed.

Basic Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a technical discipline (e.g., engineering) preferred
• 8 years of related work experience including 5 years of reporting tool experience
• Exposure to infrastructure design, implementation, support and management solutions
• Knowledge of standard support development frameworks and methodologies
• Knowledge of Oracle and Snowflake databases preferred
• Fluent with all critical nightly batch processes
• Fluent with the implemented Microstrategy security model
• Fluent in a standard development methodology
• Sound knowledge of Data Warehousing (Star/Snowflake schema) concepts.
• Strong experience on Schema objects like Logical tables, Attributes, Facts, Hierarchies etc.
• Strong experience on Public objects like Metrics, Filter, Prompts, Custom Groups, Consolidations, Reports, Documents and Dashboards

• Familiarity with operating system, relational databases and data sources Microstrategy, Tableau connects.

• Well versed with all MicroStrategy Products Suite namely MicroStrategy Intelligence Server, Architect, Administrator, Desktop, mobile, Web, iPhone and iPad, OLAP Services, Narrowcast Server, Enterprise Manager, Command Manager and Object Manager and Workstation.
