EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE: 4 years working with data

Data Architects are responsible for the design, structure, and maintenance of data. A data architect ensures the accuracy and accessibility of data relevant to an organization or a project. The management and organization of data requires proficiency in database design (Concept Maps, ER Diagrams, etc) and the transformation of data throughout its lifecycle (SQL, XML, etc).

A successful data architect must possess superior analytical skills and be detail-oriented. Data architects require the ability to communicate effectively as part of a larger team within the information technology department. Additionally, a data architect will need to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical staff. Since development of data models and logical workflows is common, a data architect must also exhibit advanced visualization skills, as well as creative problem-solving.

What You’ll Accomplish and Experience

• Design relational databases to support business enterprise applications and physical data modeling according to project requirements
• Review existing data architectures to determine overall effectiveness and compliance with original objectives, develop comprehensive strategies for improving or replacing under-performing areas
• Model, design, and implement architectural strategies to meet stated requirements for metadata management, operational data stores and Extract Transform Load (ETL) environments
• Improve system performance by conducting tests, troubleshooting and integrating new elements
• Define data dictionary definitions, governance practices, and standards
• End-to-end data lifecycle management activities, evaluating and recommending new and emerging data management and storage technologies
• Work with business units, functions, and leaders to prioritize business information needs.

Desirable Previous Experience

• Technical expertise in data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques
• Experience with business tools: Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL, Python, and Excel
• Demonstrated ability to be organized and self-directed
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significate amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross functionally
• Excellent communication, analytical and facilitation skills
• Knowledge of business processes to provide data solutions
• Fluency with key analytical applications
• Using a palette of techniques ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining
• Skills to train the users in how to transform data into action-oriented information and how to use information
• Strong understanding of how to access and manage the data required to support business and analysis requirements
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all stakeholders at all levels of the organization
