ResponsibilitiesThe Director, Sponsor Finance Underwriting position supports the Originations team within Sponsor Finance. The successful candidate will lead a new 4-person team in performing diligence in support of lead arranger roles for sponsor backed companies. The candidate will work collaboratively alongside the sponsor coverage professionals and our clients as we look to build on our established presence in this space. The Director will develop strong working relationships with key internal partners and is a critical member of our sponsor finance practice. The Director and team will perform on-site due diligence, provide industry and company specific research, prepare financial models, deal related marketing materials, internal approvals memos and other analytics to support CIT’s lead role in sponsor financed transactions. The ideal candidate will have experience in underwriting commercial loans across various asset types. Skills will be developed through exposure to senior and mid-level bankers, lead Agency clients and members of the investor community. Responsibilities within this senior role include:
- As a deal captain, the Director will manage a team of leveraged finance Analysts and Associates working in support of lead arranger roles
- Perform due diligence on M&A and LBO financings working with clients, senior bankers and legal in support of arranger roles within leveraged finance
- Draft industry, sector, and company research (valuations, comp sheets, financial models) supporting capital markets underwriting activities
- Develop relationships with sponsors and their portfolio companies and recommend solutions to help our clients efficiently grow
- Collaborate with Capital Markets on investor presentations, deal syndication and deal execution in support of growing our brand presence in the leveraged finance
- Work closely with internal and external counsel and operations teams on documentation preparation, working with the client to ensure all needs are incorporated and a timely, efficient closing process occurs
- Special projects to support new business generation, develop process improvements and expands our presence in tangential markets
The base pay for this position is relative to your experience but the range is $175,000 to $200,000. This position is eligible for variable compensation, which may be in the form of incentive, bonus, or commission pay. First Citizens offers a competitive, comprehensive

QualificationsQualification & Skills Required:
- BA or BS degree AND at least 5 years of experience in leveraged finance, commercial banking, investment banking or private equity, investment management or capital markets (sell side).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong leadership ability with a desire to build a high performing team within a fast-paced and collaborative culture
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills in a prior role with strong modeling capabilities and highly proficient with Excel, prior use of Bloomberg a plus
- Strong communicator with effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with tight deadlines while being part of a fast paced and dynamic team with high growth
- The successful candidate will be a team player that is willing to work collaboratively with colleagues and client and exhibit a strong desire to succeed
- Must be willing to travel when necessary (20% of the time)
