Technical level position responsible for development of analytical procedures, tracking/reporting of quality control programs, overseeing routine production of analytical data in accordance with applicable permits and regulations, new method development, calibration/troubleshooting of equipment, training, and providing analytical support to refinery personnel. Additionally, this position has responsibility to ensure all safety rules are followed in the lab and that work areas and conditions are adequate and safe.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree with 5 years of job related experience is required
- Refinery lab testing (gasoline, diesel, petrochemicals, wastewater)
- Using, maintaining, troubleshooting complex analytical equipment
- Specialized training for GC, GC/MS, ICP, VUV, Octane
- LIMS administration
- Supervisory Experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Microsoft Office: Excel and Word
- Oversee testing performed by assigned hourly and contract personnel. Develop and keep analytical testing and other lab procedures current. Train, certify, and periodically audit testers on existing and new test methods and lab safety procedures. Implement corrections and improvements to test methods, as required. Assist refinery personnel with troubleshooting operability issues and/or resolve product quality issues
- Set example for Laboratory Safety Awareness. Participate and support all Laboratory Employee Safety Programs including, but not limited to, safety meetings, safety audits, and housekeeping programs. Monitors the laboratory for violations of safety guidelines and maintains an excellent laboratory safety housekeeping culture. Conduct periodic department safety meetings
- Support and maintain laboratory statistical quality control and cross-check programs. Track, report, and ensure compliance with laboratory QA/QC including but not limited to SQC (Statistical Control Chart) per ASTM D6299. Review instrument QA/QC data logs for abnormalities, trends or leading indicators, and report or take corrective action as needed. Promote and enforce all regulatory and quality assurance compliance programs
- Update, generate, and manage timely execution of test schedule each shift via the laboratory information management system (LIMS). Manage LIMS data base to be error free and current. Work with IT to install upgrades and resolve downtime related problems
- Maintain and calibrate analytical equipment for consistent and reliable operation. Perform or coordinate repair and maintenance of analytical equipment. Ensure standards, reagents are up to date and maintain adequate replacement inventory off all consumables, instrument parts, applicable supplies, and reagents
- Facilitate continuous and improvement of technicians and chemists.
- Identify and justify equipment purchases. Review and make recommendations as to best way to allocate monies and resources
