What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Strategic Risk position at Citi?
The Head of Strategic Risk will design and execute a firmwide program of redevelopment of the firm’s strategic risk framework as part of the firm’s broader transformation efforts. The role will provide leadership to team members and to the front line units on how to structure descriptions of these risks, how to determine materiality in a rigorous way, and how to aggregate risks in a consistent way. The Head of Strategic Risk will focus on managing a rigorous and efficient Strategic Risk program and will focus his/her efforts leading the Strategic Risk team and partnering with senior Business and Finance leaders to ensure comprehensive oversight of Strategic Risk. Given the critical importance of the rigorous Strategic Risk program, the Head of Strategic Risk will represent independent risk management in senior-level sessions and committees, including sessions with the Group CRO and direct reports of the Group CRO. The Head of Strategic Risk will also lead sessions with the front-line groups and with groups such as risk appetite to communicate the rigorous set of inputs and outputs which are involved in the execution of the Strategic Risk program.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain the Strategic risk program framework to ensure active identification, measurement, monitoring and reporting of Strategic risk including an assessment of risk appetite.
- The initial and ongoing identification of strategic risks across the franchise.
- Active monitoring of those strategic risks from a 2nd line of defense perspective.
- Enhanced metrics that assess strategic risk appropriately.
- Development and implementation of a new quantification method for Strategic Risk.
- Establishing guidance for clear delineation of roles and responsibilities for 1st and 2nd line of defense.
- 2nd line ownership of challenging FLU Risk Appetite assessments and monitoring.
- Ownership of the Risk Assessment of Plan Framework (RAOP).
- Oversight of the RAOP process.
- Strategic assessment and identifcation of risk triggers to inform the Rapid Stress Testing and Risk ID programs
- Analysis of the firm’s risk profile vis-à-vis industry/peers to inform strategic risk assessments
- 2nd line ownership of ERM’s recommendation to the CRO on Risk’s holistic view on the RAOP outcomes.
Qualifications:
- 15 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated leader with a proven track record for influencing the outcome of change
- Robust understanding of all risk stripes and experience managing through various risk lenses
- Experience of standing up largescale change programs incorporating planning, resourcing, governance and reporting
- Demonstrated experience with strategic and operating planning, financial reporting
- Proven ability to partner and collaborate across the firm, excellent influencing, facilitation, and partnering skills, with the ability to build relationships and a strong internal network across the business and functions as well as throughout the global Risk network
- Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication with high degree of diplomacy and persuasion skills
- Ability to review, challenge and critique proposals in senior management forums
- Strong analytic and quantitative skills with ability to rapidly research new and emerging industry trends with a strategic risk lens
- Strong experience and understanding of the banking sector
- Strong tenacity and resilient under pressure and self-motivated in a fast paced and demanding environment
- Highly engaged, strong attention to detail, and outcome oriented
Education:
- Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
- Master's degree preferred
