Position Description
One (1) Temporary-exempt, full-time, full year position. Exempt employees are considered “at will” and serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.

The job of TIA -Campus Control 8272 is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for maintaining appropriate behavior and a flow of foot traffic in and around campus areas and at events authorized and sponsored by CCSF ; taking appropriate action to correct situations which may lead to undesirable behavior; preparing related reports and memoranda; assisting in the development and enforcement of campus policies regarding conduct; monitoring and enforcing college parking rules and regulations; and assisting in departmental activities which minimize the frequency and severity of harmful incidents.

Under direction of the Chief of Police of designee, the TIA Campus Control Aide position is a non-sworn position with the San Francisco community College District Police Department. The non-sworn Campus Control Aide differs from the sworn Institutional Police Officer in that the incumbents assigned to this classification provide protection by observing and reporting unusual and suspicious activity.

Job Duties

Job Duties:
Assist with public services including protection of District buildings and property and guarding against fire, intrusion, theft, and vandalism.

Check of doors and windows for security; locks doors and turns out lights.

Monitors a variety of issued parking permits and verify that permits are current and valid.

Reports the use of stolen permits to supervisor.

Issue parking citations and warnings, as appropriate per parking rules and regulations.

Reports any apparent malfunction of pumps, electrical, and heating equipment.

Provides information to staff, students, and visitors.

Provides crowd and traffic control at special events and athletic events.

Observes and reports unusual or suspicious situations.

Writes reports on thefts, vandalism, and other related incidents.

Notifies Police Dispatcher if additional assistance is needed.

Operates a two-way radio to communicate with the Dispatch Center and other officers.

Report directly to a Center.

Work at a Center with minimum supervision.

Assist with building fire alarm and evacuation procedures.

Assist with community outreach events.

Patrols on foot and by vehicle.

Activate/Deactivate building alarms.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Requires skill and understanding in working with young people; excellent communication skills; understanding of the student community; ability to respond tactfully and effectively to those who question existing campus policies and regulations; familiarity with the City College of San Francisco organization, programs, activities, rules and regulations; knowledge of state, local and San Francisco Board of Education rules and regulations governing conduct on public school property; and ability to prepare reports of some complexity.

Minimum Qualifications
Training and Experience; 1. Completion of 15 semester units of college course work in Criminology/Administration of Justice, Public Administration, or related field; AND
2. One (1) year (2000 hours) of paid experience in police or security work; OR
3. An equivalent combination of training and experience; AND
4. A background investigation will be required prior to appointment. Employees must pass and maintain continued eligibility throughout their employment.

Substitution: Completion of Administration of Justice campus field work course as stated in Minimum Qualifications #1 (equivalent to 6 units), is equivalent to 6 months of outside work experience. However, candidate must complete at least 6 months (1000 hours) of paid work experience outside the District and at least 6 units of college coursework in the appropriate field.

Note: Work experience with the District as a College Work Study ( CWS ) student or Lab Aide (3591) will not be considered or applied as qualifying experience.

Possession of a PC832 certificate

Benefits
1. Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, classified employees working full year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school-term-only ( STO ) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreements between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school-term-only ( STO ) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.

2. New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013, will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund ( RHCTF ).
