The salary offered depends on qualifications. ---Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the City of Alamogordo’s Legal Department, in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Required: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree in law;Two (2) years of litigation experience (clinic work in litigation will be considered);License to practice law in New Mexico, or the ability to obtain a license within one year of employment;*Must not have been suspended or disbarred from the practice of law in any jurisdiction;Valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain within 60 days, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo;Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Desired: Prosecution experience.*The Rules Governing Admission to the New Mexico State Bar allows public employees to obtain a limited, non-renewable, one-year license to practice law in New Mexico. Eligible attorneys must take the next New Mexico Bar Exam for which the applicant is eligible. Limited licenses only permit the attorney to practice law in New Mexico as a public employee representing public defender clients or a government entity. The Rules Governing Admission also provide for a process called Admission on Motion. Attorneys must be able to demonstrate that they have actively and substantially practiced law for five of the past seven years in a jurisdiction(s) that accepts New Mexico attorneys for admission without examination.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job;Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions;Most work is performed indoors in an office or courtroom setting; the noise level in the work environment is typically quiet;While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear; The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms; Field inspections and consultations with city staff may require driving and off-road walking under a variety of weather conditions; required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing field work. The noise level outdoors or on jobsites may be moderate to loud;Occasional late-night public meetings must be attended, and the employee must maintain alertness and concentration for extended periods of time; Lift and/or move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; the lifting of any object greater than fifty (50) pounds by a single individual is prohibited. Lifting objects, materials, or equipment weighing more than fifty (50) pounds requires the buddy system or the use of devices designed to assist with lifting or moving. Proper lifting techniques shall be used when lifting items of any weight; andSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
