Utility Maintenance Operator

Primary Purpose:

Under supervision, performs installation, repairs, and repair of wastewater collection system;

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Individual must possess a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Class B CDL - or must be obtained within 6 months.

1 year of heavy equipment operation

Experience working with pumps

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to communicate effectively with others

Ability to correctly prioritize workload

Ability to work rotating work schedules and nights

Experience:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Repair or unclog wastewater (sewer) lines or sewer mains with hydro-cleaner and/or vacuum truck

2. Installs clean-outs in sewer service lines

3. Sets up barricades when required to protect employees and the general public

4. Performs routine maintenance on hydro-cleaner and vacuum truck, tools, and equipment

5. Digs holes, run-off gutters, and trenches using hand tools and other equipment

6. Records all service calls and daily duties

7. Ability to operate heavy equipment when necessary

Tools/Equipment Used: Shovels, wrenches, Pipes (PVC, steel, iron, etc); light truck or van, hydro-cleaner truck

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent walking, climbing; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (100 pounds) frequently

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, dirt, sewage, water. toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects or vehicles; insects, rodents, may work alone, regular exposure to high, fast moving mechanical parts
