HIRING RANGE:  $1,917.26 - $2,348.72 Biweekly
FULL SALARY RANGE:   $1,917.26  - $2,780.18 Biweekly

The purpose of this position is to provide citizens the opportunity to participate in aquatic programs.  This is accomplished by supervising and training personnel, developing and implementing various programs and maintaining water quality in pools and hot tubs. Other duties may include purchasing supplies and equipment, overseeing facility operations and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.  This position provides direction to other employees.

Essential Functions:
The information listed below is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of this position.
  • Supervises full time, part time and seasonal aquatic personnel by completing the hiring process including receiving the proper documentation, scheduling shifts, processing payroll, coordinating and providing training, writing performance evaluations and disciplining employees when necessary. 
  • Develops and implements various programs by assessing the needs of citizens, identifying the types of programs to offer, recruiting and hiring qualified instructors for new programs, negotiating class and instructor fees, scheduling program dates, reserving facilities for programs, purchasing and maintaining equipment and materials needed and advertising programs to the general public.  
  • Coordinates aquatic programs and with the swim team by interacting with the public and parents of participants, managing professional services contracts and addressing issues and concerns.  Acts as department liaison with professional associations and affiliations. 
  • Maintains water quality in pools and hot tubs by monitoring chemical levels on a daily basis, adjusting chemical levels as needed and performing routine maintenance of pumps, filters, chemical feeders and other pool components. 
  • Monitors the allocation of resources by ensuring that the supplies necessary for programs and operation of the facility are maintained, ordering new supplies and equipment, evaluating and recommending the budgetary needs and creating vendor lists. 
  • Oversees facility operations by addressing and resolving complaints and concerns from the public, responding to emergencies when required, preparing facilities for programs, rentals and parties and ensuring the cleanliness of facilities.  
  • Works varied shifts including opening, closing and weekend hours as assigned.  
  • Acts as Center Supervisor in the absence of the Center Supervisor. 
  • May work varied shifts including opening, closing and weekend hours as assigned.

Job Requirements
Education & Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  
  • Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of relevant work experience; OR
  • Associate's degree plus six (6) years of relevant work experience; OR
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus ten (10) years of relevant work experience

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Degrees in Parks and Recreation or a related field is preferred. Experience in Parks, Recreation and Tourism; Therapeutic Recreation; Gerontology/Nutrition; Kinesiology, Sports Management or Physical Education; Ice Rink Operations Manager; Golf Operation or Programming is preferred.

Certification and Other Requirement 
  • Valid Class C Drivers License
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification and/or Water Safety Instructor Certification, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire 
  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification, or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire

Work Schedule
  • Ability to work a varied schedule that includes working mornings, evenings and weekends.

The employer has the flexibility to adjust an employee's working hours as needed and at their discretion

Overall Physical Strength Demands
  • Light - Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
