Job Description
Under limited supervision, this position supports Amarillo’s Emergency Communications Center (AECC) software systems. This includes the day-to-day operation of the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and requires interfacing with Dispatch staff and police and fire agencies to ensure user satisfaction with system configuration and performance.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support Call Take and Dispatch operations.
- Develops and maintains computer-aided dispatch workstation and user configuration.
- Trains and provides technical assistance to users and identifies and corrects software and peripheral equipment errors.
- Provides technical assistance and instruction to users concerning computer operations, database information, software, and hardware capabilities to resolve problems and malfunctions.
- Develops workflows and configures CAD applications to match the business process.
- Prepares user or training manuals, narrative or analyzed data, correspondence, or forms, and completes special projects.
- Consults with information technology professionals concerning complex computer malfunctions.
- Maintains computer systems, files, and databases and prepares reports.
- Investigates, analyze, and document all problems affecting the applications and resolve issues or develop acceptable workaround solutions.
- Customizes existing computer-aided dispatch software, performs system changes, and implements new technology.
- Administers computer-aided dispatch system end-user accounts.
- Attends and participates in user group meetings.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Experience administering Hexagon’s suite of software products, including CAD.
- Call Take and Dispatch training
- Ability to use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and data entry.
- Ability to work with a diverse population.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work additional hours, if necessary.
- Possess excellent organizational, communication, and diplomacy skills.
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems management, or a related field is preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully will be considered.
A minimum of four years of end-user computing, programming, and computer maintenance experience is required.
A valid Texas Driver’s License is required.
