In this role, you will use your skills to inspect, clean, and maintain our city’s vital storm water drainage system. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on general construction projects within the system, ensuring that it remains in top condition.
As a member of our team, you’ll be responsible for performing a range of tasks, including entering confined spaces to inspect piping systems, operating equipment and trucks (including snowplows and salt spreaders) during winter emergencies, and performing manual labor as needed. You’ll also need to follow all occupational safety rules and practices and comply with standard work zone traffic control procedures.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have effective communication skills, be comfortable working in undesirable conditions and inclement weather, and be able to use and operate storm sewer pipe cleaning/maintenance/repair methods and equipment. You should also have a working knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications, be able to use hand tools (both power and manual), and be able to fill out daily paperwork, including job reports.

As a Drainage Utility Worker, you’ll work both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. This dynamic environment requires you to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Some overtime may be required if weather conditions dictate after-hours work.
