What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Crew Leader - Parking position at City of Appleton, WI?
This is a working lead position responsible for coordinating the maintenance and necessary repairs to parking ramp structural components, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and on-street parking meters. This position also performs routine ramp maintenance and coordinates/performs ramp custodial functions. This position works alongside crews to accomplish tasks while providing direction, supervision, and oversight of staff. This position also works collaboratively with the Parking Utility Manager to provide input into performance evaluations of staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Actively works alongside crews; assigns and directs daily work assignments, monitors work completion; suggests improvements and efficiencies; ensures compliance with policies, expectation, quality and quantity of work.
- Keeps Parking Utility Manager informed of staff, equipment and material needs.
- Assists in planning, organizing and prioritizing work for the Parking Division.
- Responds to customer requests, complaints and Citation Review forms.
- Performs routine maintenance on parking ramp equipment, gate arms, etc.
- Collects money from ramp exit and pay-on-foot machines.
- Inspects parking meters to ensure they are operating properly. Replaces batteries and repairs jammed meters on the street and removes others to parking meter shop for repairs; replaces meter posts.
- Operates a power sweeper to clean parking ramp floors and a pressure washer to clean the ramp decks.
- Installs signage in parking ramps entrances. Spreads snow melt and ice melt when necessary.
- Plows ramps and adjacent sidewalks and spreads snow melt and ice melt when necessary.
- Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Collects coin from on street and ramp meters as needed.
- Cleans ramps as needed.
- Replaces light bulbs in parking ramps.
- Assists in applying concrete sealer on decks of the parking ramps.
Requires considerable experience in the operation and repair of mechanical parking equipment such as coin operated meters, ramp exit pay machines, mechanical gate arms and training beyond the high school level in parking meter and equipment repair or related field, supervision and/or leadership, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public, and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to withstand an variety of temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
