The City of Arkadelphia’s Building Department is accepting applications for a Permit Clerk position.
This is a full-time, hourly position. Prospective candidates must be available to work Monday – Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. A one-hour lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. is provided.
JOB SUMMARY
Primarily responsible for providing administrative assistance to the Building Department. The Permit Clerk will assist with a wide variety of tasks considered standard or regular support duties within the department.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Screen incoming calls, direct calls, take and transmit messages.
- Greets visitors and provide assistance.
- Assist with permit issuing process.
- Run various reports, draft correspondence and or/transcribe meeting notes, as needed.
- Support a positive working environment with employee team-building activities
- Assist with Research and data monitoring.
- Recorder for Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment Meetings.
- Assume City Clerk duties at Board Meeting when the City Clerk is unavailable.
- Schedule inspections for Building staff.
- All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proven working experience in an office environment.
- People-oriented and results-driven.
- Demonstrate experience with Microsoft Office Suite products.
- Excellent active listening and presentation skills.
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.
- Knowledge of construction trades is a plus.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
- See well enough to read fine print and numbers without error or transposition; Corrective lens acceptable.
- Hear well enough to respond to verbal communication; hearing aid acceptable.
- Speak well enough to communicate with the public and address small groups of three or more people.
- Use of hands to operate office equipment; computers, keyboards, etc.
- Work performed in a normal office setting with moderate noise.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalency.
- Possess a valid Arkansas Driver’s License.
- Must be at least eighteen years of age
