Job Posting for Transit Coordinator at City of Arlington
Under general supervision assigns, monitors and oversees the daily tasks of bus drivers and performs radio dispatch duties. Receives and processes transportation for hire permits and inspects transportation for hire vehicles in the field for permit compliance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ability to assign, direct, train, monitor and oversee the work activities of bus drivers.
Ability to receive radio transmissions from drivers via two-way radio and advise drivers of cancellations, addons, emergency procedures, etc.
Ability to schedule manifests in response to passenger service requests using computer scheduling software as well as maintain a written and computer log of all service requests as needed.
Ability to respond verbally and complete written reports documenting and resolving passenger complaints, vehicle accidents, fleet maintenance, and passenger schedule changes/cancellations.
Ability to receive, review and process transportation for hire permit applications; monitor and ensure compliance with transportation for hire ordinance in addition to the ability to issue citations.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ability to drive a mini-van or bus as needed.
Ability to operate as a lead in the absence of the Transit Operations Support
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of city street system, names and locations.
Knowledge of locations of city and public facilities.
Knowledge of route planning methods and techniques.
Skill in making independent judgments.
Skill in proofreading and error checking.
Skill in project management and delegation of related bus tasks.
Ability to learn City of Arlington transportation for hire ordinance.
Ability to plan, monitor, train and oversee functions of subordinates' work assignments and performance.
Ability to speak clearly and be easily understood.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to telephone, personal computer, printer, two-way radio and copy machine.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound.
Ability to schedule and coordinate vehicles and passenger trips.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public and staff.
Ability to deal with confrontation in a professional manner.
Ability to perform a variety of physical skills such as pushing, climbing, driving, writing and typing.
Ability to perform background checks and field inspections.
Ability to drive a van or mini-bus
Qualifying Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Two years related experience and one year of overseeing daily tasks of staff operations or any work equivalent combination. Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C; and, the ability to obtain a Texas CDL within six months is required.
An offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment testing which includes: Criminal Background, Motor Vehicle, Physical and Drug and Alcohol testing.
