About Our Opportunity
The City of Asheville invites you to apply to be a part of the 2022 Parks & Recreation Department's Community Centers’ and After School Programs’ Support Staff. We are looking for staff who are energetic and engaging; have strong leadership skills and ability to model responsible mature behavior as they monitor and facilitate a variety of activities.
Hours: The After School Program Staff will work weekday afternoons and the Community Center positions will work evenings and/or weekends. Times will vary according to each individual position.
This position is a temporary/seasonal position. This position will NOT be eligible for benefits, paid leave time (vacation, sick, holiday) nor participation in the retirement system. This position is open until filled*Prepares, organizes, and facilitates daily and weekly activity schedules.
*May lead a variety of group games, crafts, and other various activities.
*Will supervise and participate in all recreational activities
*Administer first aid as needed.
*Responsible for behavior management of participants as needed. Includes recognizing and responding to issues in a timely manner.
*Documenting issues and communicating necessary information to appropriate persons. *Maintains a positive attitude at all times and provides positive customer service to participants and the public.
*Assists in maintaining cleanliness of facilities.
*Performs other related tasks as needed.*Previous work experience in a recreation setting is preferred.
*Must be willing to take and be able to pass City provided Adult and Child CPR/American Red Cross First Aid certification class, unless currently certified.
*Applicants with equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Working Conditions Knowledge:
*General knowledge of community recreation work and practices.
*Should include knowledge for use of equipment and leadership techniques.
*Familiarity with relevant rules and regulations pertaining to social, artistic, and athletic programs for youth and adults Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to facilitate a variety of recreational activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, participants, and members of the general public.
*Ability to enforce city, departmental, and program rules and regulations.
*Ability to prepare and maintain program records.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
*Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor settings.
*Able to handle long periods of sitting, standing and physical activities.
*Some shifts may require prolonged exposure to outdoor working environments.
