General Description And Classification Standards
This staff position works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Engineering and the Airport Engineering Manager and provides technical direction to junior engineers within the discipline.
Supervision Received
Works independently with minimal supervision and a high level of accountability and as a team member. Work methods and assignment results are typically reviewed by a manager prior to final action.

Has broad knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of the engineering/ construction discipline appropriate to the group in the organization into which the engineer in hired is able to follow procedures and to monitor performance against measured established goals. Has thorough knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job. Keeps management abreast of changes in policy, methods, operations, and equipment needs, etc. as they pertain to the engineering discipline group to which he/she belongs. Can effectively communicate and interact with consultants, subordinates, management, employees, contactors, vendors, airline personnel, and concessionaires. Can assemble information and make written reports and documentation in a concise, clear, and effective manner. Has good organizational and technical skills. Can use independent judgment and discretion in the handling of emergency situations, determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations using engineering and statistical calculations.
Is knowledgeable and proficient with computers and appropriate software, especially word processing, spreadsheet, and design software appropriate to his/her discipline. Has working knowledge of basic AutoCAD and SKM and is able to review AutoCAD drawings on the computer, do markups in AutoCAD, and is able to make minor changes and revisions to AutoCAD drawing files without the assistance of a CAD technician. Can read, understand, and interpret FAA regulations. Capable of working under a significant degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention to detail and tight deadlines.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, or a minimum of 2 years of related technical experience (co-op experience will be considered).
Preferred Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related area and 5 years of Airfield Engineering related experience. Two to seven (2-7) years of progressively responsible engineering/construction management experience, including experience in project management and supervision.
Licensing Requirements
Professional registration in Georgia as an engineer in training (EIT) is preferred, though a combination of significant additional appropriate experience may be accepted in lieu of the EIT. This registration requirement applies only to engineering graduates. Valid State Issued Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform Electrical design and technical studies.
- Prepare technical specifications and plans.
- Review construction documents for compliance with engineering principles, department standards, contract requirements, and specifications.
- Review and approve tenant work plans.
- Perform and/or supervise construction inspection.
- Assist with review, planning, and budgeting of projects developed within the entire DOA engineering organization.
- Establish priorities for the completion of work of those projects in accordance with department needs.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and non-engineering staff.
- Provide design guidance for construction and maintenance projects.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, consultant/tenant design documents, and planning reports.
- Conduct periodic on-site inspections of ongoing construction projects at the frequency necessary to ensure that construction is proceeding properly.
- Assist Airport Engineer (Construction Manager) in overseeing the construction phase of projects for implementation by Department of Aviation (DOA) or outside consultants as required for dealing with airport needs or the needs of facility tenants and/or stakeholders.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of electrical as-built drawings, project manuals, or other bidding documents for equipment, materials, and/or work defined in project contracts, which are necessary for project completion.
- Interface with other P&D units, maintenance, management, tenants, outside consultants, construction contractors, and project stakeholders (departmental divisions, City bureaus, airlines, local jurisdictions, permitting agencies, etc).
- Assist with preparation of portions of the annual budget for his/her engineering discipline group for review and approval by Engineering Director.
