What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bike Program Staff position at City of Auburn?
The Auburn MTB program offers a variety of classes and programs around bike skills and bike safety. Auburn MTB is seeking Recreation Program Assistants to serve as ride leaders, coaches and mentors in programs for youth ranging in age from 2-18 years old. Programs consist of learn-to-ride programs for all ages, mountain bike skills workshops for youth ages 5-18, community bike and safety skills, and community outreach. Additionally, Auburn MTB seeks to hire a program leader.
Recreation Assistant Duties

- Assist the Program Leader with leading small groups of youth in skill building activities
- Bike Maintenance skills are appreciated
- Bi-lingual- particularly Spanish is very helpful
- A strong desire to work with youth and empower them to be strong, safe bicycle enthusiasts.
**Mountain biking skills are not required for all positions.
Recreation Program Leader Duties:
- Proficient mountain bike skills
- Program development knowledge
- Desire to lead a team and foster good relationships with schools and community members

Recreation Assistant
- Must be at least 16 years old (under 16, check out our CIT program)
- Ability to pass a background check completed by the City of Auburn
- Ability to complete First Aid/CPR.
Recreation Program Leader
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Ability to pass a background check completed by the City of Auburn
- Ability to complete First Aid/CPR.
Recreation Assistant Additional Details and Duties :
- Bike Maintenance Assistance- inflating tires, sizing helmets, managing gear, bike repairs, etc.
- Ride Leader- lead youth on mountain bike trails, assist with basic skills instruction, assist with assessing participant skill levels. *Mountain Bike experience is required in this role.
- Assist the Program Supervisor with small group skill building, mountain biking skills, encourage youth, engage with all youth participants.
- Special Events- assist with set up and tear down of community outreach events around bike skills and bike safety, assist with helmet fittings, answer questions from the public, lead stations/activities as required.
Recreation Program Leader Additional Details and Duties :
- Oversee the tracking of bikes and equipment for inventory purposes
- Keep records of maintenance and equipment usage
- Assist the Program Coordinator with training of part time staff and volunteers
- Conduct bike maintenance as necessary
- Plan and implement program curriculum
- Measure program metrics in partnership with the Recreation Coordinator
- Ride Leader- lead youth on mountain bike trails, assist with basic skills instruction, assist with assessing participant skill levels.
- Design and facilitate program lesson plans.
- Special Events- assist with set up and tear down of community outreach events around bike skills and bike safety, assist with helmet fittings, answer questions from the public, lead stations/activities as required.
- Provide day-to-day, on-site supervision of recreation assistants and volunteers.
- Maintain program records including: attendance, sign-in/sign-out sheets, and incident reports.
- Basic trail maintenance.
