SANITATION DRIVER - SANITATION

JOB SUMMARY

Operates a refuse packer truck; assists crew in collection of waste and garbage on assigned route.

Essentia! Job Functions: Drives the refuse truck and loads and unloads unit; carries out lead worker responsibilities including: training in job skills, assigning and directing work, making recommendations in performance appraisal, and reporting problems to supervisor. Performs maintenance function on truck by checking gas, oil, tires, battery and packer oil. Reports all maintenance and equipment problems to garage personnel. Determines what refuse is not to be picked-up and notes violation. Assists crews in collecting waste, garbage, and other miscellaneous items as required. Responds to questions pertaining to trash from the general public. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED; and six months of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilifies to perform the essential functions of the job. Licenses and Gertifications: Valid Commercial
Driver's License (CDL). Knowledge of: General knowledge of waste collection methods and equipment.
Sanitation rules and regulations. Skill in: Operating and performing routine maintenance on assigned equipment. Collecting garbage, waste and refuse. Dealing effectively with the public. Mental and
Physical Abilities: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to direct and oversee the work of others. Ability to ensure safe work practices. Ability to communicate effectively. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. While performing the essentia! functions of this job the employee is frequently required to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Working Gonditions: While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately loud.
