General Definition of Work
Under regular supervision, performs general grounds maintenance and custodial work as necessary to maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and safety of public parks. Reports to the Parks Superintendent.
Essential Functions
The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of the specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
· Performs general grounds maintenance work as assigned, including but not limited to cutting grass; raking leaves; removing debris from properties; installing trees, shrubbery, and flowers; removing weeds; pruning; applying mulch; applying fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides as needed, etc.
· Loads, hauls and unloads equipment, mulch, planting materials, etc., as needed for assignments.
· Performs minor repairs to irrigation systems components.
· Performs general custodial duties to maintain clean and sanitary public restrooms.
· Observes all applicable safety rules and regulations.
· Maintains and performs minor repair work on assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools.
· Operates a lawn mower, weed eater, tractor, edger, tiller, as well as a variety of hand and power tools. Exercise’s care and safety in the use and maintenance of required tools and equipment.
· Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
· Other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director or the Park Supervisor.
Education and Experience
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of experience in grounds keeping or landscaping, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. South Carolina driver's license required.
