Summary of Position:
This position is responsible for coordinating the maintenance of the department's equipment and supply inventory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Works with vendors to obtain quotes for department equipment and supplies, including police duty gear, radar units, badges, awards, guns and other items.
• Assists in the administration of the equipment and supply budget; assists in the evaluation of products and supplies for purchase; obtains management approval for new lines of goods; analyzes past expenditures, expected needs and future cost projections; reviews year-to-day spending reports and monitors performance; recommends budget adjustments as needed; works to identify cost-effective alternatives and options.
• Coordinates the installation of equipment in police vehicles.
• Orders and maintains the inventory of all department equipment and supplies.
• Arranges for the service, repair and maintenance of department equipment.
• Maintains a supply of uniforms, duty gear, portable radios, guns, body armor, badges, and other equipment; works with new personnel to establish uniform and duty gear needs.
• Obtains bids for large expenditures.
• Tracks equipment warranty and service schedules and arranges for replacement, service or repair as needed.
• Coordinates police facility security systems; changes door locks; coordinates with contractors; maintains building key inventory.
• Assigns lockers and mailboxes to staff.
• Performs related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures and manufacturer directions and warranty information. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
• The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom or warehouse. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, globes, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
