What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fall/Winter Recreation Instructor position at City of Bloomington, MN?
Primary Objective
Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of of fall and winter recreation programming, under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor. Deliver high quality programming to Bloomington residents youth and family. Provide work direction and on-site leadership to teen volunteers as applicable.

Examples of Duties
- Provide a safe, fun and appropriate experience for all participants.
- Assists the planning, organizing and leadership of various activities at multiple Bloomington Parks and facilities.
- Assumes responsibility for leading specific programs or activities as delegated by the Recreation Supervisor.
- Assists the Recreation Supervisor in planning and preparing weekly events. .
- Prepares all reports required on participants, incidents and property damage.
- Provides support as needed for all participants and staff to create an inclusive environment onsite.
- Works as a team member to ensure the program’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
- Provides mentorship and work direction for Teen Volunteers.
- Follows staff policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all participants follow the established policies and procedures.
- Completes all other duties as assigned by Recreation Supervisor
- Adhere to and enforce state health guidelines.
Minimum/Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have experience leading outdoor recreation programs and/ or working with youth.
- Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma and relevant post-secondary course work preferred (Therapeutic Recreation, Education, Recreation, Leisure Services, etc.).
- Experience with towing trailers
- Experience leading and/or designing: Snowshoeing, ice fishing, archery, youth camps
Supplemental Information
This position is a 6 month seasonal position. Applicants should expect to work 2 weekends per month. Weekly hours range between 8-24 per week on non event weeks. This seasonal/casual position is flexible for working students.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $17.00 – $18.00 Hourly
Temporary Seasonal; Non-Exempt; Non-Union; Benefits Ineligible (except for PTO)
Ongoing Part-Time employees who are employed for more than 6 months will make contributions to the pension program (PERA) through payroll deductions unless they qualify for one of the exemptions. In addition, Part-Time may receive Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook and eligable for paid parental leave after 6 months of employment.
Temporary/Seasonal employees do not receive benefits outside of Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook.
