Join the City of Boise's Public Works executive team! The Public Works Deputy Director of Core Services assists the director with oversight of Public Works community-facing services including materials management, climate action, city facilities, and fleet. This new role is part of a departmental restructuring aimed at streamlining operations, improving leadership for better decision-making and oversight, and creating new career opportunities.
Coordinates and directs operations for Public Works' community facing services divisions, including materials management, climate action, building facilities and fleet. Leads planning and strategy development for Public Works' community facing services, partnering with city and community leaders and department deputy directors to ensure alignment, monitor progress on timelines and deliverables and provide routine updates.
Sets and drives the strategic vision of enterprise funds including coordination with the Deputy Director - Shared Services in the development and updating of strategic plans which set short-term and long-term capital improvement plans. Develops and implements division goals, objectives, programs, policies and processes to align with short- and long-term strategic plans. Ensures divisional alignment with both department and broader initiatives.
Coordinates with the Deputy Director - Shared Services regarding financial shared services and development of annual budgets and rate recommendations as appropriate. Oversees a budget and ensures spending is within and according to allocated budget, monitoring spending and project budgets.
Coordinates amongst Public Works deputy directors to ensure alignment and consistency of strategy and standardized business processes across the department highlighting and implementing best practices.
Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, manages interactions with regulatory agencies and advocates for the department and city’s interests in regulatory matters. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations. Oversees compliance reporting and documentation, audit procedures, findings and resolutions. Responds to public and regulatory inquires, providing reports, documentation, or other information to address questions and/or concerns.Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and
- 15 years of progressively responsible experience in a public works agency or utility operation, including at least 5 years of managing professional and technical staff.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
- Master's degree in environmental science, business administration, or a related field and background in various facets of public works, particularly materials management, water renewal and climate.
- Experience managing multi-million-dollar budget and a diverse set of facilities.
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid state-issued driver’s license.
