This is a provisional appointment.
Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Under general supervision, supervises the collection and removal of household refuse and recyclables being done under contract in an assigned district within the City of Boston.
Responsibilities
- Observes for possible violations of laws or regulations pertaining to the storage and putting out for collection of refuse and recyclables.
- Notifies violators of same, and acts as liaison with other city and state agencies' personnel in enforcing the sanitation laws.
- Delivers recycling blue boxes, stickers and literature, and puts out recycling signs when required. Issues permits as required.
- May supervise snow plowing being done under contract; and performs related work as required.
Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
- Applicants must have at least one (1) year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the field of environmental sanitation, health inspection, or related work.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
- Computer proficiency preferred.
- Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver's license.
Boston Residency Required
