IDENTIFICATION
Position Title: Recreation Specialist – Programming
Department: Parks and Recreation
Immediate Supervisor: Recreation Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary function of the Recreation Specialist – Programming position is planning, scheduling, organizing, implementing and supervising special events, fitness classes and senior programs for the department; oversee the facility reservations for meeting rooms at the Brentwood Community Center and outdoor pavilions; assist with daily operations of the Welcome Desk.

Full Time-Primarily weekdays, evenings and weekends dependent upon meetings, programs and special events.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Deliver a safe and excellent customer service experience to our residents, members and patrons.
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures, suggest changes in current practices when necessary.
3. Plan, coordinate, market and evaluate special events, fitness classes and senior programs for the department; coordinate statistical reports relating to program enrollments and finances.
4. Oversee the general facility reservations for the Brentwood Community Center including scheduling, billing, and oversight of the meeting rooms and common areas.
5. Manage all contracts pertaining to room rental operations.
6. Coordinate all facility reservations and formalize and monitor user agreements with outside agencies for use of the park pavilions.
7. Interview, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate Building Managers, Rec-Aides and part-time instructors.
8. Submit, review and maintain program information in the brochure and recreation software.
9. Prepare and monitor programming and administration budget including revenues and expenses related to meeting room rental revenue, pavilion rental revenue, programming revenue, part-time staff expenditures as well as other contractual expenditures and supplies.
10. Promote and procure sponsorships for assignd recreation programs.
11. Instruct classes as needed; fill in for shift workers when necessary.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of recreation programming coordination and trends.
2. Knowledge of community relations and marketing techniques.
3. Effective oral and written communication skills; strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite applications and Rec-Trac recreation software.
4. Ability to interact with and maintain good relations with patrons, public and staff.
5. Ability to supervise part-time staff.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in the field of Parks and Recreation or related field and/or equivalent work experience and education.
2. Minimum one year experience years in the Parks and Recreation, programming or rental management.
3. Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider and First Aid required within three months of employment.
4. Professional certification desired.

PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Work is typically performed indoors at a desk or table with intermittent sitting, standing and stooping; must lift light objects (less than 25 pounds) occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects as a requirement of the job.
2. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license.
3. Work is typically performed in an office environment, with some exposure to weather and outdoor conditions from time to time.
4. Outdoor work involved as related to the City’s parks, trails and pathways, trees, and open spaces.

2. Contacts are typically to provide services, to give exchange information, to resolve problems, or to justify, defend or negotiate matters.
3. Frequent contact with federal and state officials and administrators, the general public, and internal contacts requiring tact and diplomacy are requirements of the job.
