Director of General Services

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

nder executive direction of the City Manager, the purpose of this position is to direct and oversee the overall operation, maintenance, and management of the City’s Facilities (City Hall, Annex, Slater Center, and other city owned buildings); Non-Park Grounds; and Fleet Divisions.

· Responsible for accomplishing operational objectives and goals within the guidelines established by the City Manager and performs related work as assigned

· Develops, implements and monitors short and long-term plans and needs for City facilities, property, and fleet

· Directs the development of and monitors performance against the annual department budget and the City’s capital improvement plan

· Assists other Departments in determining capital needs related to property and fleet

· In conjunction with other Departments, develops, implements, and manages the Preventative Maintenance program for facilities and fleet

· Researches, conducts, and oversees special projects at the direction of the City Manager

· Monitors service delivery standards.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Project Management, or Construction required, with seven to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position

· Municipal leadership preferred

· Must have excellent project management, staff development, and communication skills

· Must be able to organize, set priorities, and exercise sound independent judgement within areas of responsibility

· Must maintain a valid, current driver’s license.

• Possess knowledge of general management principles and practices related to personnel, budget, and project management.
• Ability to plan, coordinate, direct, and motivate the work of professional and administrative staff.
• Project management skills with PMP or related certification preferred.
• Skill in supervising construction and maintenance activities.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City and State officials, contractors, City staff, and the general public.
• Excellent work history and attendance record.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $83,207.66 - $102,844.59 per year
