Join Our Team as a Police Services Specialist for the City of Burlington! Are you ready to join The City of Burlington in our Police Department? We're seeking a dedicated individual to perform daily reviews of departmental crime reports, submission of crime reports to the state, and the timely gathering of information needed for reports of minor crimes. Expected Hiring Range: $35,916.91 - $39,508.60. A starting salary above the range listed may be considered for highly qualified individuals not to exceed the maximum of the grade.
Takes information from victims over the telephone or in person for investigative reports.
Reviews incident reports, arrest reports, citations, and supplemental reports for accuracy, error, clean data, and appropriate labelling, in addition to submitting complete reports to the state.
Submits crime reports to the state and FBI.
Supports, maintains, and is involved with the department’s clean data initiative.
Obtains the necessary information from victims in person, by telephone, or electronically and is responsible for submitting investigative reports for minor crimes.
Assists with the fingerprinting process for Burlington residents who are seeking employment or for individuals seeking employment within our jurisdiction.
Enters data into computer including criminal arrest sheets, traffic citations, Traffic Stop Reports, Mental Commitments, DMV 349’s and NCIC entries.
Manages and assigns NCAWARE (North Carolina Warrant Repository).
Assists officers and the District Attorney’s office with obtaining the necessary documentation for court.
Disseminates DMV 349’s (crash reports) to the appropriate agencies. Assists the public, insurance companies, and related entities with DMV-349 information.
Receives mail/packages and distributes to the proper personnel.
Obtains and disseminates information for the department’s statistical purposes.
Receives and properly stores Felony Notes and other departmental documents.
Work frequently requires considerable initiative, independent judgment, and discretion based on confidential information.
Must be capable of using judgment and discretion in the exercise of their duties due to the sensitive nature of personal and other information accessed.
Performs related duties as required.
Thorough knowledge of police reporting systems, including data entry, storage, and retrieval
Thorough knowledge of computer based operating systems.
Thorough knowledge and techniques used in data collection, cleaning, reporting, and analysis.
General knowledge of the geography of the City of Burlington and surrounding area
General knowledge of departmental policies and procedures
General knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances pertaining to police operational and investigative procedures
Demonstrated ability to perform basic statistical calculations such as averages, percent changes, measures of central tendency, spatial analysis concepts, and other statistical concepts.
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency and considerable work experience in office assistance, customer service, supplemented by word processing and computer courses, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
Physical Requirements

Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned in preparing and analyzing figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal viewing and extensive reading.
