What are the responsibilities and job description for the METER READER position at CITY OF CALDWELL?
Under the direction of the Water/Wastewater Superintendent, the Meter Reader will be responsible for the following duties:
- Reads and records readings of residential and commercial water and electric meters on an assigned route; utilizes a handheld computer to capture utility usage data.
- Checks meters to ensure authorized seals and serial numbers are attached.
- Inspects meters for signs of tampering, vandalism, and theft of utility services.
- Clears overgrown vegetation, obstacles, and hazards from meters; reports meters blocked by
structures such as porches or decks to the supervisor.
- Responds to customer complaints; resolves problems or notifies supervisor.
- Reread meters as necessary to get accurate data or to identify problems such as water leaks.
- Assists with cleaning and maintaining department vehicles.
- May assist office personnel by answering phone calls or taking payments as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- A valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the location of city streets and meters.
- Skill in the use of various meter-reading equipment and hand tools.
- Skill in operating a motor vehicle.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
