What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at City of Cedar Hill?
- Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner. Assist with carrying out the vision and mission of the City and the Finance Department.
- Supervises accounting operations including payroll, accounts receivable, bank and account reconciliations, fixed assets and general ledger positing(s); maintains chart of accounts; supports and provides input on financial transactions within the department.
- Works with the Finance Director and the Assistant Finance Director in shaping City policy, developing staff, and overseeing the core accounting functions.
- Provides and/or reviews fiscal analytical services on expenditure and revenue trends; respond to external users of the City’s financial data; review for accuracy financial reports being presented to end-users.
- Coordinates the annual audit and preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Provides continual development of the audit processes and procedures including monitoring, developing and strengthening the City’s internal control processes. This will include ongoing “risk” assessments that could have a significant or material impact on the City’s financial statements.
- Provides support and assistance to City departments on grant management and financial reporting.
- Keeps the Finance Director informed at all times of financial transactions impacting or causing significant or major variances in the Financial Statements.
- Regular attendance is required, including extra hours during audit periods.
- Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management with a Master’s degree preferred.
- At least four years of related experience in government required, and at least two years of supervisory experience.
- Local government experience is preferred.
- Valid Texas Driver's License, or the ability to obtain within 30 days.
