Summary

This position is responsible for day-to-day operations of short-term and long term disability,  COBRA, flexible spending accounts and life insurance administration.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate and interpret the short and long-term disability insurance programs: participant communication, inquiries, enrollment/changes, communication with carriers, billing and claims processing. Responsible for oversight of flexible spending accounts and life insurance administration.  Manage Third-Party COBRA administration and benefits document management to ensure compliance and effective communication.  Perform weekly quality and compliance audits and reviews.  Provide technical support in the delivery of benefits programs, to include medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, flexible spending, life insurance, long and short-term disability and voluntary benefits; including but not limited to detailed plan design or document review, benefit system review and/or update of individual member records. Provide benefits assistance to employees, retirees and vendors, including complex issue resolution.   Perform audits as needed on benefits information in the HRIS and benefits management system to ensure the integrity of the information. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information; ensures compliance with HIPAA.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of benefit administration procedures with an ability to be detail-oriented and highly organized.  Analytical mindset with the ability to collect, interpret, and/or analyze data, identify trends, and organize to allow for informed decision making.   Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with people at all levels of an organization, internal and external.  Working knowledge of summary plan descriptions and plan documents, compliance requirements, and common benefits practices and procedures. High level of skill in handling sensitive and confidential situations and information.  Working knowledge of laws/regulations that apply to employee benefits plans (PPACA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, Section 125, Medicare, Social Security, DOL, etc.).  Ability to interpret regulations, policies and procedures.  Ability to work independently, in a process-oriented way but flexible and adaptable to organizational needs.  Ability to be assertive, negotiate and collaborate. Willingness to cross train and learn other functions as needed.  Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).  Exemplary written and oral communication skills. Ability to navigate, write and run reports in HRIS and benefit administration systems. 

Preferred Qualification

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent experience. Experience:  At least three (3) years of experience in benefits administration with increasing responsibility in the administration and programs is required. Practical understanding of and experience with disability, life insurance and COBRA plans is preferred.

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five year(s) of related work experience   OR   2 Year College Degree and three year(s) of related work experience   OR   Bachelor's Level Degree and one year(s) of related work experience   OR   Master's Level Degree
