What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer position at City of Chesapeake?
The Chesapeake Interagency Consortium ( CIC ) is looking for experienced volunteer parent representatives to serve on its Family Assessment and Planning Teams.
This position is an opportunity for a parent from the community to sit amongst representatives from community partners to effectively collaborate to identify services for youth and families.
- Collaborating with private service providers and representatives from Social Services, Court Services, Public Schools, and the Community Services Board ( CIBH );
- Communicating and problem-solving youth / family specific issues from a strengths-based approach; Maintaining objectivity in emotionally charged situations;
Actively participating in service planning, and being sensitive to varying races, cultures, religions, and / or sexual orientations.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a resident of the City of Chesapeake;
- Be a biological, foster, or adoptive parent or guardian of youth whom have had interaction with one or more areas of our mental health system.
Preferred that as part of the individual's employment, he / she doe not interact directly on a daily basis with children as part of a public / private agency who is receiving funds or represented on a FAPT .
Able to volunteer one designated Wednesday per month from 8 : 30am - 4 : 30pm (day subject to change around holidays) or at a minimum half of the day : 8 : 30am - 12pm or 1pm - 4 : 30pm.
Preferred Qualifications
Are you a biological, foster, kin or adoptive parent of a child with mental health concerns and has been involved with one or more systems to include, Court Services, Dept.
of Juvenil Justice, Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Health ( CSB ), Public Schools Special Education, or Department of Social Services? Yes or No
- Are you actively receiving CSA funded services in the City of Chesapeake or any other locality? Yes or No
- What personal experience do you have navigating mental health within your own family?
