GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, provides customer service, training and technical support functions for the Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) technology users; installs, configures and repairs computer hardware and software; trouble-shoots and resolves problems, and maintains peripheral equipment.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Keeps the mission, vision and values of the Board of Public Utilities at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity, and generating innovative solutions to work situations.

· Provides technical support, training and assistance to employees; explains Information Technology (IT) issues, and deploys solutions according to BOPU standards, guidelines and procedures.

· Responds to inquiries and prioritizes requests for service; interviews user to collect information about technology problems, and leads user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error; determines whether user problem is caused by hardware, software or operator problems.

· Defines problems, researches and isolates error sources, implements technical solutions to resolve user problems within scope of authority and training; refers complex problems to senior technical staff, and tracks the problem until it has been resolved.

· Operates and monitors computer systems equipment, computer servers, and telephone systems; monitors production output and quality; schedules, prints, and distributes reports, invoices and technical documents as directed.

· Initiates and completes daily schedule of computer system production runs; runs backup procedures; ensures backup tape rotation schedule is followed, and ensures proper storage of backup tapes for recovery; maintains printers and other peripheral equipment.

· Installs and configures computer systems, peripherals and related software; assures that software is properly loaded and configured on personal computer systems; reloads software on failing computer systems and creates recovery backup images when necessary.

· Diagnoses hardware trouble and initiates action to repair or replace the failing component; recommends hardware component upgrades and assists users with technology related purchases and requests.

· Creates and runs special reports and develops databases as requested.

· Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; re-orders materials as needed.

· Uploads and downloads hand-held field computer meter readings; runs related customer service reports.

· Develops and conducts training classes for basic computer skills; writes class outlines and creates training and operating documentation.

· Documents work completed and maintains system documentation records; notifies supervisor and other technicians of unusual problems to facilitate continued improvement of IT services.

· Assists with administration of user accounts and security settings by creating, changing and deactivating accounts within a network environment and within software system applications. Participates in new employee orientation by providing instruction on technology related policies and procedures, communication systems, Microsoft 365 and other software applications.

· Ensures system security and confidentiality of records and information; monitors staff compliance to security procedures and BOPU policies and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Associates Degree in Computer Science and/or IBM iSeries computer systems; and three year’s computer support experience, in a networked technology environment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

· Driver’s license valid in Wyoming with good driving record.

· Depending on the needs of the BOPU other job specific training and certifications may be required.

Required Knowledge of:

· Principles and practices of computer science and technology management.

· Microsoft Office applications and Windows operating systems.

· Technical support principles, processes, and standards.

· Hardware, software and peripheral equipment troubleshooting techniques.

· Networked computer system environments and device capabilities.

· Principles and practices of network system access and security guidelines and procedures.

· Principles of curriculum development, technical training, and adult learning theory.

Required Skill in:

· Installing and maintaining computer hardware, software, and peripherals in a networked environment.

· Assessing customer support needs and implementing effective solutions.

· Using basic tools, equipment and procedures for maintaining computers and peripheral devices.

· Analyzing equipment malfunctions, troubleshooting computers and software applications, and determining effective solutions.

· Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.

· Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of standard and technical software.

· Effective verbal and written communications.

· Entering data and numerical information into a computer system with speed and accuracy.

Working Conditions:

Work Environment: Work is performed in a standard office environment, with occasional travel to various locations. Occasional outdoor field work and working outside of normal business hours is required.

Physical Demands: Moderate physical work requiring frequent lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands, arms, stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $3,798.00 - $5,318.00 per month
