The Position:

To perform a wide variety of tasks in the entry and identification of fingerprints and palm print records; search fingerprint records, and compare latent prints against an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) database for the purpose of identifying potential candidate matches.

Essential Functions

Enter and search fingerprints and palm print cards through the automated fingerprint identification system by identifying and labeling individual ridge characteristics; compare incoming fingerprint cards for suitability of searching through the automated fingerprint identification system; compare individual friction ridge characteristics between fingerprints and archived impressions to aid in the identification of individuals; and perform related duties as assigned.

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience
One year of experience in the classification and identification of fingerprints. Latent print experience is highly desirable.

Training
Training or exposure to AFIS.

Education
Completion of the twelfth grade

License/Certificate
Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Completion of beginning and advanced course work in fingerprint identification from the FBI, Department of Justice, or an accredited college is highly desirable.For the complete Automated Fingerprint Technician classification click HERE.Recruitment No. 23512303
