POSITION SUMMARY:
This employee is responsible for maintaining the grounds and buildings at the Cleveland Municipal Airport, ensuring that all buildings and property are properly maintained and the airport grounds are presentable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain airport grounds activities, such as, but not limited to, mowing grass, trimming, edging, landscaping, and applying lawn chemicals for grounds maintenance.
· Maintain all equipment to ensure proper function and availability.
· Maintain normal building maintenance and repairs.
· Maintain airfield lighting maintenance.
· Perform janitorial services for the terminal building.
· Assists Airport Director with inspections and daily operations.
· Provide customer service to airport visitors.
· Work with volunteers to help with landscaping.
· Cooperates with other City Departments.
· Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and City government goals.
· Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform limited HR/Payroll functions for supervised employees, such as, but not limited to, participating in hiring, discipline, and or termination of employees; time labor reporting; FMLA reporting; Worker’s Comp reporting, etc.
EDUCATION:
Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school; six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of both. Certification or an applicator's license to apply herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers is required.
EXPERIENCE:
· Airport operations knowledge and welding skills are preferred but are not required for the position.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Ability to maintain accurate and complete records.
· Must possess a valid Mississippi driver's license with five (5) years of driver's record, shall reflect no charges that would adversely affect insurability under the city carrier's policy.
· Knowledge of personnel management/employee relations.
· Knowledge of budgets and formulation of policy.
· Ability to remain calm and tactful in stressful situations.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
· Proficiency with using hand tools, power tools, and electronic equipment.
· Operate motorized equipment, such as ATV, Tractor/Bush-hog, Zero turn mower, Trimmer, Edger, Chainsaw, etc.
· Ability to mix and apply chemicals according to specifications.
· Lead, instruct, and train others in the work, including the operation and proper use of equipment and landscaping methods.
· Proficiency in operating standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
· Minor plumbing and electrical repair knowledge.
· Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what maintenance is needed.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The employee will be occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, smell, and lift/move objects in excess of 100 pounds. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hand and arms, and lift/move objects up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hand to finger, handle or feel, speak, listen, see or view, and lift/move objects up to 25 pounds. The use of a corrective lens to aid the employee is acceptable.
This position requires you to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
TRAVEL: This position may require you to travel up to 10% of the time.
