What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard II position at City of Clovis, NM?
**This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. **
- Assists the Aquatic Administrator with the management of staff as needed and/or as directed.
- Assists with planning, organizing, and/or monitoring of special events, personal fitness events and/or performs swimming lessons and training.
- Assists with overseeing that all staff hold current American Red Cross certifications.
- Assists with special events including aerobic and therapeutic classes.
- Patrols and observes swimming pool area; prevents ball playing, tag games, fighting, and other infractions of rules around the pool area.
- Rescues tired bathers or bathers having difficulties, applies artificial respiration if necessary.
- Administers first aid to cuts and other injuries suffered by bathers and administers CPR when necessary
- Assists in sweeping, mopping, and picking up of wastepaper and trash in the pool area and buildings
- Ensures pool rescue equipment, benches, and other movable equipment are kept in proper area
- Assists in working behind counter, checking baskets, and valuables
- May be required to work weekends and holidays
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Must have American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate.
- First Aid and CPR, and AED Certifications.
- Must possess a valid New Mexico “Class D” driver license or the equivalent.
- Must possess or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment, one of the following:
- Certified Pool Operator
- WSI Trainer
- WSI
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor,
- Must have the physical strength to control struggling adult swimmers.
- Moderate work involving frequent standing, walking, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies. Essential duties are predominantly performed outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions. Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment. Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required. Due to the environmental sensitivity and requirements of operation of the facility the above milestones must be met to continue employment.
Salary : $14 - $21
