Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview
The Assistant Director of Construction Inspection is responsible for supervision of Construction Supervisors and Inspection Teams tasked with the delivery of construction projects and recurring Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) and Capital Operating Projects in accordance with established technical standards, policies, procedures and state and local regulatory requirements. This position performs complex engineering construction functions including supervision and facilitation and implementation of construction projects, coordination with contractors and consultant forces to deliver assigned projects within established budget, schedule and quality requirements. Strives to achieve delivery efficiencies through effective work. Supervises direct reports to assist with pre-construction activities including constructability reviews, scope assessment, construction budgets and schedules. Responsible for site supervision of all construction activities or assigned projects. Directly responsible for meeting project schedules and budgets; ensures construction meets requirements of project documents and specification; maintains updated project documents, daily logs, as built drawings, etc.; ensures a quality product is delivered to the City; conducts contractor meetings and coordinates work as required. Establishes operating responsibilities among construction program staff and consultants for optimal workflow and problem resolution. The Assistant Director will be also be responsible for negotiating any claims and change order requests and providing adequate documentation to management to support filed decisions related to change orders and claims.
Responsibilities
- Daily operations of a Construction Division. Must have ability to take ownership of project after take-off meeting. Provide management and supervision of Construction staff and site supervision of all construction activities and assigned projects. Ensure that projects are on schedule and on budget according to contract requirements.
- Professionally represent the City when interacting with City Officials, City employees, private developers, contractors, consultants and the public. Ensures that public awareness and notification devices are installed and maintained by contractors in a manner consistent with City, State and Federal guidelines. Attends meetings, as necessary to ensure communications.
- Oversees field inspections; ensures completion of associated detailed inspection of reports to certify construction compliance with City Standards.
- Ensures for monitoring all projects and provides recommendations on corrective actions and uses authorization to immediately halt work if deemed unsafe.
- Establishes and maintains various safety records, ensures complaints with record keeping, laws and guidelines.
- Maintains current files regarding City construction as builds.
- Supervises division personnel, implements department policies and rules; informs personnel of new procedures and policy changes; conducts selections interviews; evaluates employee performance; disciplines as necessary; prepares work assignments schedules; orients crews to project details; provides guidance as to project specifications, deadlines, standards and methods of operations; maintains work activity records.
- Handles all day-to-day operations of the Construction Division.
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.
- Proof of Liability Insurance.
- Registered Professional Engineer preferred.at the time of hire. If a candidate has a PE from another state, he/she needs to obtain PE within a year of hire.

Basis of Rating
Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
