This position is an exempt position at pay grade 208.
Attendance
Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview
Analyze civil liability cases against Corpus Christi, apply Texas Tort Claims Act, decide on liability, negotiate settlements, manage case reserves and budgets, research laws, and communicate liability matters to City leadership and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Researches, analyzes legal issues & determines law applicability by reviewing State and Federal statues, regulations, ordinances, case law, law reviews
- Advocates & negotiates by representing the City in civil pre-litigation matters, reviews, prepares correspondence, settlement & releases
- Track liability cases, assess risk assessment values, create budget reserves & expenses. Reviews cost containments, authorizes payments, collects funding, allocates recoveries to appropriate departmental accounts
- Set & maintain budget reserves & make adjustments accordingly
- Acts independently in evaluating claim exposures & make liability assessments
- Provides directions to claimants and City staff to resolve problems & issues pertaining to operation & activities
- Makes decisions regarding liability, represents the City in civil matters. Advocates and Negotiates by representing the City in legal matters
- Principles of claims investigation, litigation management adjustment documentation & evaluation of cases
- Determine information needed to proceed with a legal matter. Obtain relevant documents, determine potential witnesses, review, and apply appropriate claims adjusting remedies. Identify liabilities and exposures take actions to eliminate future losses
- Provides direction to Managers and Supervisors on appropriate actions concerning City operations & activities, plan of action, resolutions, regards to liability issues
- Meet, plan discuss, investigations, strategies, training & loss prevention efforts to mitigate future losses
- Track cases via risk management information systems, review & update, accordingly, track financial expenditures and financial reserves
- Cases in which liability has been accepted require planning and management of activities generated within a file.
- Set and monitor financial reserves, process bills, arrange rentals, hire outside contractors (when needed)
- Agreements are made with medical providers, repairs are arranged, inspections are planned, finances are managed, at any given time 50-70 cases are being planned and managed for property losses, personal injuries, or subrogation
- Evaluation of losses, Cost containments, Medical Peer Reviews, Legal Strategies, Meeting with employees, Managers, Directors, Litigation Attorneys, City Manager regarding review of losses and strategies
Qualifications
- Associate degree (AA/AS); or 2-year technical certificate
- Minimum of 2 years of experience
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating
Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
