Building Maintenance Worker

The City of Danville is seeking qualified Building Maintenance Workers (2 positions) to join our team. In this role, you will provide general building and structure maintenance and improvements to City owned facilities. This includes repairs, installation of equipment, interior and exterior construction, and assistance with utility and mechanical systems operation. Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent from a recognized educational institution.
• At least three (3) to five (5) years of practical experience in this field or a closely related capacity.

Required Skills: The following skills are basic to the functions of this position.

• Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate work with others and interact with contractors and the public.
• Ability to work well under pressure and act with tact, kindness, professionalism, and confidentiality.
• Capable of working with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following examples are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of this position.

• Interior and exterior painting.
• Installing devices or equipment.
• Making repairs to carpentry work.
• Service compressors and HVAC units.
• Calculate quantities and order materials from suppliers.
• Successfully plan, layout, and complete construction of decks, ramps, railings, and fences, as necessary.
• Repair/replace roofs, gutters, and other portions of a building or structure.
• Installation/repair of doors, windows, and awnings.
• Successfully plan, layout, and complete framing and finish carpentry.
• Hang and finish drywall.
• Construction of shelving, cabinets, and countertops.
• Analyze project conditions and make recommendations regarding corrective actions and improvements.
• Successfully communicating problems, ideas, and solutions to co-workers, administration, and the public.

Required Licenses: Must have the following licenses or be able to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire date.

• Illinois Class CDL Vehicle Operators License

Residency Requirements: Employees and Officers of the City must establish their principal residence within forty-five (45) miles of the City of Danville corporate limits within six months following successful completion of their probationary period.
