The purpose of the Street Maintenance Worker II classification is to operate equipment and perform manual work functions associated with construction, repair, and maintenance of city streets/roads, drainage systems, parks, and recreation facilities.- Employees that hold a Class A CDL will receive a $0.40 per hour pay differential.

- Operates equipment and performs manual work functions associated with various city departments and functions as assigned, which may include construction/maintenance of city streets/roads, drainage systems, right-of-way areas, parks, recreation facilities, grounds areas, or other areas of assignment.
- Checks/maintains inventory of necessary equipment, tools, supplies and materials for use on projects or at work sites.
- Transports, loads and unloads various materials and equipment used in projects.
- Performs manual work functions associated with road construction, maintenance and repair projects.
- Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in department projects and activities.
- Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition.
- Utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
- Responds to emergency calls during hurricanes, inclement weather, or other emergency situations.
- Coordinates and/or assists in setting up special events/activities; assists with traffic control and litter pickup.
- Prepares or completes various forms, correspondence, reports, maintenance reports, and other documents.
- Receives various forms, reports, time sheets, invoices, delivery tickets, maintenance reports, work orders, maps, drawings, diagrams, chemical data sheets, catalogs, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
- Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.
- Serves as lead worker on job site giving limited direction and guidance to other workers, ensuring work is completed timely and accurately.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of basic arithmetic operations.
- Knowledge of landscaping techniques and the tools used to perform them.
- Skill in operating and controlling the actions of equipment and machinery, requiring the monitoring, adjustment, regulation, and/or setting of multiple conditions
- Ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data according to a prescribed schema or plan. Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics are similar to or divergent from prescribed standards, procedures or routines.
- Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies, procedures and standards.
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.
- Ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving equipment operation, road maintenance/construction, or landscaping/grounds keeping; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licenses or Certifications: Valid State of Alabama driver’s license; valid Alabama Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Must be at least 18 years of age to work for the City of Daphne. Must be at least 20 years of age to operate City of Daphne vehicles.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Work requires regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and some tasks that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials. require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
