GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs work of a manual nature which does not require a high degree of manipulative skill or previous experience in order to do an effective job.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general guidance and direction of Street and Drainage Supervisor and/or crewleader.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patches asphalt streets and repair concrete streets and sidewalks, catch basins, manholes and storm sewer lines; mows fields and right of ways; trims trees and edges curbs.
- Assists in the installation and repair of storm sewers, water lines, storm drain junctions, and the cleaning of storm sewer lines.
- Operates light trucks in moving equipment from one site to another
- Operates hand and power tools. Performs related work as required.
- Scraping and removing debris from drainage ditches.
- Remove trash and litter from all city right-of ways.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES: With proper license (Class B CDL), can be trained to operate heavy equipment; Assist Sanitation crews when necessary; Paint over graffiti and deliver garbage bags.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Construction and / or related field experience.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
None
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Gloves, Safety glasses, Lift support belt, hand tools, power tools and jack hammers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position involves considerable physical exertion such as lifting of heavy objects (up to 100 pounds), constant bending, and extended periods of standing and walking.
