Non-Smoking
The City of Delray Beach is a Non-Tobacco Workplace. The City will not consider applicants who have used tobacco or nicotine products for a period of at least three months prior to application for employment. The definition of "tobacco or nicotine products" includes but is not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, pipes, snuff, e-cigarettes and nicotine patches or gum.
This work involves duties to ensure compliance with the City's business license and permit regulations by overseeing the business applications process. Work is performed under the supervision of the Support Services Supervisor.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Conduct business license tax collection activities through public contact and inspections
- Participate in the processing of license applications and issuance of licenses
- Respond to inquiries from the public and other City departments
- Advise proprietors on regulations that govern licenses and permits
- Identifies businesses in violation of business ordinances and issue citations for those businesses not in compliance with regulations
- Inspects new businesses to ensure proper licenses and permits have been obtained.
- Conducts seasonal inspections, including fireworks booths and Christmas tree lots
- May inspect properties, contact Waste Management on trash pickup
- Testify at Code Enforcement Board hearings as required
- Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding license priorities and problem resolution
- Provide exceptional customer phone service to our internal and external customers.
- Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
- High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Three years of experience working with municipal codes or as a Code Enforcement Officer.
- Must possess a valid Florida drivers license with a good driving record.
Knowledge of Business English, spelling and punctuation, in order to prepare documents and compose letters, etc. Knowledge of mathematics. Knowledge of the City's policies and procedures and practices pertaining to Business Tax collections. Ability to work independently and to adhere to established policies and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public. Ability to operate a PC, Keyboard or Computer. Ability to communicate using speaking, hearing and visual skills. Skill in policy interpretation and application. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.
