DUTIES
- On-camera reporter responsible for the entire story-telling process.
- Interview individuals and gather information for stories; possess the innate curiosity and sense of urgency to create compelling stories.
- Write scripts, shoot footage, conduct live and/or recorded reporting and identify appropriate distribution platform.
- Conduct research to identify topics of interest to the Denton community and pitch story ideas to Denton Television Manager; receive assignments and meet established deadlines.
- Gather information about breaking news stories through research and interviews with sources.
- Collect and organize images and video footage for use in stories; edit video footage of events or programs for broadcast or online use.
- Contribute content for City of Denton social media accounts to build brand reputation.
- Interact with elected officials, City of Denton leadership, staff, businesses, non-profits, and community stakeholders.
- Ensure that materials and productions align with the City of Denton’s brand, mission, values and goals, and that organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend special events or breaking news incidents to increase stakeholder engagement or advance interest in the City of Denton.
- Utilizes video production equipment and software including Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Premiere.

- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field; and,
- Two (2) years’ experience in on-air television news reporting, comparable television experience, or related field,
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

- Lifting: Lifting no more than 20 pounds and carrying no more than 10 pounds.
- Environment: Works in an office setting and outside with exposure to inclement weather, noise, debris, odor, heights, chemicals, insects, poison oak/ivy, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work outside normal business hours, as needed. Must be available for evening and weekend work, as needed.
